historical sites to see in this part of the country.
Also, we hear
there are many beaches to visit as well.
Finally, one viewer told us
that he has found a "hidden gem", which is something he may or may not
share with us. If he did share, then it would not be hidden, would
it. Oh well, let's see what happens.

Marylin and Dick recently returned from a two week vacation at the Grand Mayan at Acapulco. Here are their comments:

Hi Bob and Mary Ann,
My husband and I just returned from staying at the Acapulco Grand Mayan from November 22-December 5. Following is some information we received at the owners' update.
The new Mayan Palace opened earlier this summer. It has a lovely water park and lazy river, which will appeal to younger children.
The Mayan Palace is not located on the beach but is close by with free shuttle service from the Grand Mayan.
The original Mayan Palace closest to the Bakal restaurant is being replaced by the Mayan Palace Regency, which I thought was originally going to be a Bliss. This building under construction is still in the concrete stage with little work done during our 2-week stay. After looking at the pictures Ken posted in December 2009, it does not appear that not much progress has been made this past year. I will attach pictures we took.
The date on the camera was not set, but the photos were actually taken on December 1, 2010.
The remaining original Myan Palace, the Uxmal Building, is currently being demolished and is to be replaced by a 38-unit Grand Luxxe with all oceanview rooms. Completion is not expected until 2014.
The salesman reported that he thought a Grand Bliss would be built in Acapulco but did not know when or where it would be built.
We were also told that the beachfront water park and lazy river will be replaced by a small Mansions of the World Hotel and an adult water park.
Bottom line is that are aggressive plans at Acapulco, but progress is slow because more funds are being diverted to Nuevo and Riviera Mayan.
Thanks for all the work you do to keep us updated.
We appreciate hearing from you, Marilyn and Dick. Your comments provide a good understanding of the activity at the property and all the resorts. Interesting to note the tall building is not finished. We hear priorities are to keep the pressure on the Grand Luxxe brand. Clearly it is a big part of the company's future. Thank you for your insight to what is happening at Acapulco.
Thanks again Marilyn and Dick....

We just came back from 2 wonderful weeks at the Grand Mayan in Acapulco and I am enclosing some some pics I took with my iPhone (sorry about the quality). They seem to be making progress on the Bliss building. Looks like about 16 floors and they were working every day. They say it will be ready for next November. One pic is of a newly hatched turtle I came across while I was walking the beach.
Acapulco was VERY nice. The weather was always 87 in the day and 76 at night plus or minus 1 degree, a little humid but always a nice breeze. The beach is very nice and the water is quite warm with good body surfing waves. We mostly cooked in but did have 2 breakfasts in the buffet which was good.
We went with a party of up to 14 coming and going and had 3 Grand Master suites which were very comfortable, ocean side on the 5th floor so we were above the palm trees with great views. The work out area was wonderful and some of our party had facials which they loved, all the staff were very nice.
We used Sebastian Hernandez ( 0447441683086) for transportation to and from airport, city tours, shopping--- he was great. The Mayan property is very large and very well kept I would recommend it highly.
It did not seem crowded, never had a problem getting lounges at the pool and the salesman said he lost a sale because he could not get a room for a possible customer because the place was fully booked, but you know salesmen. Opening they said was next Nov and the tower I was told was a mix of both Bliss and Grand Bliss. November was great for us at Cabo (pools a little cool), Rivera Maya, NV and now ACA.
Some think that the Mayan is too far from town to enjoy the nightlife which it is but we were quite happy just relaxing by the pool, reading and working out. We took a tour with Sebastian to see the cliff divers and some other sights and after going through the city I was relieved to be at the Mayan. The city is very crowded and a little worn.
